Where is Godminster made?
Godminster Farm is set on the outskirts of the town of Bruton, Somerset. Its historic pedigree dates back to the Doomsday Book of 1086 which records that people have been living on the land since then. Delicious cheese must use delicious milk and Godminster Farm is home to our very own herd of 320 organic dairy cows.

What is Godminster cheese?
Description. Our deliciously smooth and creamy cheese, Godminster’s Vintage Organic Cheddar cheese is a multi-award-winning cheddar, covered in our distinctive burgundy wax. Our organic cheddar cheese is available as either a round or heart-shaped truckle.
Where does Godminster cheese come from?
We use the remainder in our organic cheddar production. Today, we sell our cheddar from our shop in Bruton, just off the town centre. The shops has plenty of free parking to support the town. Our sales and marketing teams work from new offices beside the shop.

Godminster Vintage Organic Cheddar is hand made in Bruton, Somerset from the farm’s own 320 strong herd of organic dairy cows. Godminster’s Vintage Organic Cheddar cheese is made from a traditional 90-year-old recipe and matured for up to 12 months.
Is Godminster cheese good?
A rich, strong yet buttery cheese that is delicious on its own, eaten with oatcakes and chutney, or devoured in hunks with an organic apple from your box. It also makes a sinfully good Welsh rarebit on toast.
Can you freeze Godminster cheese?
You can freeze the cheese in its original packaging or you can choose to wrap it in cheese paper or foil but you should then place this into an airtight bag or container to keep air from reaching the cheese.
Is Godminster cheddar vegetarian?
Yes, the Godminster cheese range is suitable for vegetarians. We only use microbial rennet (vegetarian) in our cheeses rather than animal rennet.
How do you serve cheese wrapped in wax?
There are three cutting methods we recommend:
- Cubes. Take your knife and carefully cut around the outer circumference of the wax, just along the top edge. Remove the upper “lid” of wax.
- Slices. Simply cut the cheese into 1cm slices and serve.
- Wedges. Cut the cheese into quarters, then cut each quarter in half, then serve.
How long will waxed cheese last?
An unbroken waxed cheese wheel can last for over 25 years if kept under the right conditions. Indeed, many cheeses are aged in wax for a year or two before even being shipped to customers.
What is the red part of Babybel cheese?
The red wax that wraps Mini Babybel is part of the cheese protection and ensures in all points the functions of a crust. It prevents desiccation or moulds and helps preserving the cheese in proper hygienic conditions until consumption. The cellophane is important for two reasons.

What is Babybel®’s wax made of? The wax we use to coat our products is made of a blend of paraffin and microcrystalline waxes and colouring, which specifically contains no Bisphenol A. It’s “food safe” and meets very strict regulatory standards. It poses no health risk if accidentally ingested.
Can I eat the wax on cheese?
Finally, natural rinds on cheeses like parmesan are ideal for use in cooking or broths—just not eating on their own (they’re just a bit too hard). Can I eat the wax on cheese? We appreciate the enthusiasm but unfortunately the wax isn’t meant to be eaten.
