What is Hexalobe?

CrazyDrill Hexalobe and CrazyMill Hexalobe are solutions developed by Mikron Tool to achieve a clear improvement of efficiency when machining medical screws made from Titanium (mainly Titanium Grade 5 ELI / TiAl6V4 ELI / 3.7165) or Stainless Steel (mainly 316LM / X2CrNiMo18-15-3 / 1.4441).

Are Hexalobular and Torx the same?

Torx drive is a trademark commonly referred to as star drive or, simply, a six-lobe. It’s often abbreviated to TX or 6lobe. The ISO name is hexalobular. Torx is available as an internal and external drive although it is most commonly used as a socket within the head (internal).

Are hex head and Torx the same?

No, they are two very different tools. The Allen wrench or hex key, as it is sometimes called, is a hexagon shape, that is why many refer to them as hex keys. The Torx key has a star shape. So if you are trying to use an Allen wrench on a Torx screw, it won’t work, and vise versa.

What is an 8 point star bit called?

The head looks like a star with 8 points. A square bit is used on this drive and it is a called a double because the bit can be inserted two different ways.

What is a Hexalobe cutter?

Is Torx stronger than hex?

The Torx design allows for a higher torque to be exerted than a similarly sized conventional hex socket head without damaging the head and/or the tool.

Is hex or Torx better?

In order for a hex head to work and not strip out it requires quite a bit more depth for the head, the torx requires about 30 to 50% less depth. So they are well suited to applications that require a thinner bolt head to prevent clearance issues. This is the primary reason they are used as rotor bolts.

What is the difference between Torx and Torx Plus bits?

The Torx Autosert feature guides the driver bit accurately into the recess creating a self-centering engagement action. Torx Plus is designed for high torque transmission. This means that higher torques can be used to securely tighten fasteners without incurring additional wear and tear on the tools.

Why do manufacturers use Torx screws?
