What is casing volute?

The volute casing is designed to guide the flow out of the impeller, in order to convert the fluid flow’s kinetic energy into static pressure it serves to collect the fluid discharged from the impeller and route it to the discharge nozzle (also see Pump casing).

What are different types of volute casings?

These volute casings come in two different types: single volute and double volute. In a single volute casing, the impeller discharges into one volute that wraps completely around the impeller. This type of casing features one cutwater that directs the flow of the liquid towards the discharge of the pump.

What has a volute casing?

The volute of a centrifugal pump is the casing that receives the fluid being pumped by the impeller, maintaining the velocity of the fluid through to the diffuser. As liquid exits the impeller it has high kinetic energy and the volute directs this flow through to the discharge.

What is the purpose of a volute?

The purpose of the volute is to convert the liquid’s velocity to pressure as the impeller discharges the liquid through the casing nozzle. This is achieved via a gradually increasing cross-sectional area in the volute that increases the fluid’s flow-through area, thus increasing the static pressure of the fluid.

What is difference between volute and vortex casing?

Volute casing increases the efficiency of the pump but a large amount of energy is lost due to formation of eddies. Vortex casing is a circular chamber placed in between the casing of the pump and the Impeller as shown in the above figure.

Why is volute used?

A volute is a spiral-shaped pump casing frequently used in centrifugal pumps. The purpose of the volute is to convert the liquid’s velocity to pressure as the impeller discharges the liquid through the casing nozzle.

What is a volute architecture?

a spiral or twisted formation or object. Architecture. a spiral ornament, found especially in the capitals of the Ionic, Corinthian, and Composite orders.

What is the difference between volute and diffuser?

Diffusers are characterized by a plurality of radially symmetric diffusing passageways surrounding the impeller. Either a volute-shaped or annular collector is used in tandem with the diffuser. Volutes are most often characterized by one or two scroll-shaped diffusing passageways, depending on the pump configuration.

What does a volute do?

What is a volute in construction?

A volute is one of the most beautiful pieces of wood in a home. It’s the curved piece on the bottom of the stair; it’s the spiral, the beginning on the way up and end on the way down of every proper stair; a volute is the piece that supports the birdcage of balusters at the starter step.

What shape is a volute?
