Stay with me, I didn’t know how to title this, but my question isn’t as dumb as the title looks. Although it seems to be accurate that Rome in 117 was ~5m/sqkm, and the Ottoman Empire in 1683 was ~5.2m/sqkm, I can’t figure out why this is the case.
