General admission is always free. Open daily 10 am–5 pm and until 9 pm on Wednesday, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Does VMFA require masks?
To keep you safe, masks are strongly encouraged for all visitors, staff, and volunteers. Masks are required in Cheek Theater and in early childhood programs. Physical distancing of 6 feet is required.
Can you take pictures in VMFA?
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts allows non-commercial photography indoors. The museum has rules against bringing large bags and backpacks into the museum, so plan ahead as far as any photography gear you may be bringing along. There is also no flash photography allowed inside (which would damage the artwork!)

We always enjoy the visit. over a year ago. I would give it two to four hours, depending on your interest.
How long does it take to go through the VMFA?
Check out the sculpture garden before you go into the museum itself. We spent 4 hrs at a comfortable pace and saw almost everything. This museum is not overwhelming and easy to navigate. It wasn’t crowded and we were really able to thoroughly enjoy each gallery.
Can I drink at the VMFA?
If you want to have lunch or enjoy an evening picnic in the Garden, you can bring your own food or beverages but must purchase any alcohol from Best Café.
